important than just high school transcripts?

All colleges look for signs of self-initiative, not just completing tasks that were assigned to you (like grades). What did you initiate that no one else did? Did you receive any awards for something other than just studying hard? Were you elected a leadership position by your peers? Did you do any volunteer work? All the Ivy League schools look for these traits, especially Harvard and Brown.
All of them do. More so Brown and Cornell, I find. Places like Harvard, Yale and Princeton rely more on the academic factor, but also expect significant extra-curriculars.
